My design signature: Wallpaper is my go-to for smaller to medium-sized rooms. I love being able to bring texture, pattern or color into a space that needs a wow factor. I’m not afraid to use bold prints to mix it up.

On my bedside table: On a normal day you will find a clock, book and beverage on my bedside table. I love making room for fresh flowers and smaller accessories too. When purchasing a bedside table, I look for a large enough tabletop to accommodate all of these items and provide storage below.

Best improvised centrepiece: Hurricanes filled with candles is an easy go-to for an impromptu get-together. They add height and drama and always create a relaxing atmosphere. I also keep extra runners, placemats, napkins and napkin rings on hand to switch out based on the season.

Tool I can’t do without: I don’t leave home without my measuring tape. You never know when you’ll need it. Keep one in your glove box.

Favorite thing in your home: I purchased these two “Oly” chairs from my favorite store in Westport, Conn. They are meaningful because they were beyond my budget at the time, and I love them just as much today as the day I bought them. A great investment and my favorite purchase.

Wood or carpet? I prefer wood floors with rugs, runners and coverage where needed. It’s always nice to see a wood border rather than wall-to-wall carpet.

Favorite design/decor app: I prefer Houzz over Pinterest. Houzz is more specific to interior designers. It’s easier to search products and engage in design discussions/solutions.

Next big design trend: Grass-cloth wallpaper of the 1970s is more popular than ever. This time we’re seeing patterned grasscloths that provide extra style and interest. Many of my clients are adding this wallpaper to the back of their book shelves for added texture and interest or using it in a bedroom or half-bath.

My biggest design risk: We expanded our third floor and made room for a guest bedroom and entertainment space in our previous home. It was critical to bring in natural light and a way to vent the space. Velux skylights provide a number of options. By adding this square footage, we were able to sell our home for more money and enjoy the living space.
